Learn how to design and support a behavioral intervention plan based on the function of a student's Behavior.
The focus of this course is to deepen the learners understanding of the Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and/or a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP), which may be a part of a special education student’s IEP, if that student has behaviors that interfere with his/her learning, or the learning of others.
This course outlines the different components, with emphasis on the BIP, and discusses best practices regarding how to construct a meaningful and effective BIP. The course covers identifying a target behavior, determining the function of the behavior, looking at preventative ways to avoid the behavior, teaching a meaningful replacement behavior, rewarding positive behavior, reacting to the target behavior, and behavior goals.
Throughout this course, the material is brought to life through the use of a case study, which gives the learner specific examples, so they can easily see how the skills and approaches could be applied to an individual student. Learners will also gain access to a graphic organizer to help understand and map out the BIP, as well as templates to use to guide the writing of each critical component.
